Our Practice

Since the time he started practicing law in 1974, John S. Bordelon has grown an esteemed tradition of mentoring budding lawyers to help them develop their very own successful practices. This established network of lawyers mentored by Mr. Bordelon as well as numerous other attorneys he has worked with professionally over the past 28 years practicing law in Florida makes him uniquely qualified to make client referrals to the most experienced and flourishing attorneys in areas of law he no longer practices.

A benefit To the Community in Gulf Breeze

John S. Bordelon has served on various professional and civic boards/ committees. He is well known for his community involvement, such as his numerous civic contributions. In 1989 on a pro bono basis he helped to establish the first Pensacola Beach Mardi Gras parade organizing the Krewe of Wrecks and become an organizer of the infamous Pensacola Beach Mardi Gras parade.

Proudly becoming the first lawyer to live and practice in the once small town of Gulf Breeze Mr. Bordelon became accustomed to responding to a variety of needs, which then quickly evolved his practice from specialized law to a general practice firm. This evolution of his firm happened in the opposite direction of most law firms today. However, this unique perspective has given Mr. Bordelon a deeper knowledge and insight into law that allows him to provide clients with wise and experienced referrals on a larger range of legal issues beyond taw law. These legal issues include; mortgage foreclosure defense, personal injury claims, family law, business disputes, bankruptcy, will contests and commercial litigation.

 The Public Trust Experience

While serving and living in Florida Mr. Bordelon maintained his membership with the Louisiana Bar Association. He also continued to serve as the General Counsel from its creation in 1979 to 2009 with the Lafayette Public Trust Financing Authority. The experience he gained with the public trust provided him with extensive knowledge of mortgage financing along with mortgage back securitized tax-free bond obstacles. The know-how and financial insight obtained during his 30-year representation of the public trust continue to be a benefit while working with his clients today.

Counteracting Legal Scams and Inappropriate ‘Family Protection Trusts’

Regrettably, many lawyers take advantage of the community by so-called free law workshops or seminars that are supposedly no obligation dinners, these are then followed by a strong sales push to buy an unneeded and sometimes harmful legal product. For John S. Bordelon this is a very important area of concern. He has worked to counteract the damage of the constant efforts being made by dishonest attorneys to scare people into paying steep fees for unneeded or unsuitable trust or estate plans. For those attorneys to intimidate families by using misrepresentation or omissions of relevant laws in an effort to waste hard-earned financial resources on unneeded fees paid to attorneys for what they call ‘family protection trusts’, when in fact there is just as effective no to low-cost alternative strategies available is reprehensible. Constantly working to protect clients’ best interests is a core part of the proud tradition of the community service by John S. Bordelon and his entire firm.
